Armed conflicts are widespread throughout the world, and their number and intensity lead to the critical degradation of natural ecosystems. In post-conflict reconstruction programmes, there is a risk of environmental conflicts. The structure of the relationship between the environment and environmental conflicts is diverse and complex. Thus, any strategy for post-conflict ecosystem restoration should include a model for risk assessment and environmental conflict management. Environmental conflicts have a negative impact on the achievement of socio-environmental sustainability at the local, regional and national levels. The causes of environmental conflicts are different and their manifestations vary considerably. Monitoring and management of environmental conflicts is an important part of the environmental management system implemented in the process of post-conflict reconstruction. This article discusses the nature of environmental and natural resource conflicts and their applicability or suitability for managing environmental conflicts. This article is a critical examination and analysis of the mechanisms for managing environmental conflicts affecting the relationship between people and nature, mechanisms and tools for environmental management, which are key elements of post-conflict reconstruction programs.
