Abstract

Improving labor productivity has become a critical requirement for high-tech companies in China, as rapid digital transformation, growing technological complexity, and intensifying global competition place new demands on organizational effectiveness. Xiaomi Motors, which operates at the intersection of engineering and digital innovation within the Xiaomi ecosystem, is a prime example of these challenges. Its hybrid structure, which combines traditional automotive manufacturing with advanced software and AI solutions, creates a unique environment where productivity is influenced by both technological and human factors. The purpose of this article is to provide an analytical review of contemporary Chinese and international approaches to improving labor productivity and assess the applicability of these approaches in the specific context of Xiaomi Motors. The methodological basis of the study is a content analysis of Chinese academic publications (2020-2024), a comparative analysis of international productivity models, and a structural and functional analysis of the factors influencing the effectiveness of mixed engineering and IT teams. The results highlight the importance of digital HR tools, hybrid performance appraisal systems, T-shaped competencies, an integrated engineering and digital corporate culture, and workload and burnout risk management. A comparison of Chinese and international approaches reveals both commonalities and distinctive features that determine their relevance for high-tech companies operating in China. The results suggest that improving productivity at Xiaomi Motors requires a multidimensional strategy integrating technological, organizational, and cultural components. The practical significance of this study lies in its potential to support the design of targeted HR solutions and productivity improvement programs for Chinese high-tech organizations, including Xiaomi Motors.
