DIGITAL AND ESG TRANSFORMATION OF A COMMERCIAL BANK WITHIN AN ECOSYSTEM DEVELOPMENT MODEL (ON THE EXAMPLE OF PJSC “VTB BANK”)

This paper examines the relationship between the digital transformation of a commercial bank and the integration of sustainable development principles into its operations in the context of the emergence of an ecosystem model. The relevance of this work stems from the increasing role of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors in the financial sector, as well as the active implementation of digital technologies that are shaping new forms of interaction between banks and their clients and partners. The aim of the study is to analyze the mechanisms for integrating digital technologies and ESG principles into a commercial bank's strategy and assess their impact on the sustainability and competitiveness of the banking business model. The methodological basis of the study is comprised of comparative and structural-dynamic analysis, elements of financial and economic analysis, and strategic analysis tools, including SWOT analysis. The empirical basis for the study is data from the financial and non-financial statements of VTB Bank Public Joint-Stock Company for 2021–2024, as well as materials from rating agencies and open analytical sources. The analysis revealed that the bank's digital infrastructure serves as a key platform for implementing its ESG strategy, integrating environmental, social, and governance factors into core business processes. The use of big data processing technologies, digital remote service platforms, and automated reporting systems contributes to increased transparency, the expansion of financial inclusion programs, and the development of green financing instruments. The development of an ecosystem model is also found to be changing the bank's revenue structure and increasing the role of the fee-based business. These findings indicate the emergence of a new model for banking development, in which digital transformation and the implementation of ESG principles are mutually reinforcing, enhancing the sustainability and long-term competitiveness of commercial banks.
