The article is devoted to the transformation of the world monetary system. The paper analyzes the causes of the emergence of the modern monetary system and its current state. The causes of global financial instability are considered. Analyzed the prospects for the US dollar, euro and other currencies in world finances. An assessment of the role and place of gold in the present and the future is given. Cryptocurrency analysis is made as a possible alternative to traditional currencies. The forecast of the transformation of the world monetary system in the short and medium term is given.
