FUNCTIONING OF THE ECONOMY AND FINANCIAL MARKET UNDER SANCTIONS: THE EXPERIENCE OF SOUTH AFRICA

The study is devoted to the analysis of the experience of the functioning of the economy of the Republic of South Africa in the context of large-scale sanctions against this country during the apartheid policy (1960-1990). The main sanctions are considered and judgments are made regarding their overall economic efficiency, taking into account the intertwining of economic and political interests of different countries. Some of the main vulnerabilities of the economy and financial system of South Africa are highlighted, which significantly complicated the counteraction to sanctions and caused the implementation of various restrictions by the country's authorities to curb capital outflow from the country. The impact of sanctions pressure on the national currency and stock markets was noted. Based on the analysis, the main conclusions are drawn from the experience of South Africa, which, in the author's opinion, it is advisable to take into account in the current situation of large-scale sanctions pressure on the Russian economy in order to ensure its stability and progressive development.
